Newport, Rhode Island | Parasailing In The Fog, Sailing, Tennis Hall Of Fame

My trip to Newport was rather foggy but it was one of my favorite places I’ve been to! The food was delicious, it had some of the best shopping, and I got to knock off a few things I had on my bucket list. Whether you have one day or four you’re bound to find something that catches your interest in this itinerary.

Keep in mind, I DON’T include travel days in my itineraries! :)

Getting Around

Nearly all of the touristy areas are very walkable from the wharfs. If you can avoid a rental car and just uber to the few places you’d need a car to get to, choose that option. If you drive there or have a rental car, one big thing to note is that parking is a nightmare. It’s very limited and EXPENSIVE even for short amounts of time.

DAY ONE

The Wharf’s and Shopping + Activities For The Adrenaline Junkies

The Perfect Itinerary

Grab Some Coffee From ‘Springline Coffee’

Explore Bowen/Bannister’s Wharf and Swinburne Row

Eat Lunch At ‘The Black Pearl’

  • The menu is slightly impossible to find but I got some type of BLT. Rather than tomatoes it had tomato jam which was oddly incredible!!

Parasailing With Island Style Parasail ($89+)

Everyone at Island Style Parasail was amazing. They were so fun to chat with and had great music taste which is always a bonus. The photo/video package is completely worth it!! Up to 3 people *I believe* can ride at once and only one person needs to purchase the package. If parasailing isn’t your thing, you can get a head start + extra time shopping on Thames Street.

Thames Street

  • Del’s Frozen Lemonade

  • The Sundance Company

  • Breakwater Surf Co

  • The Salty Babe

Eat Dinner At ‘22 Bowen’s Wine Bar and Grille’ Or ‘The Black Pearl’ (Call Me Crazy But The Lunch and Dinner Menu Are Different)

Sunset Sail On The ‘Madeline’ With Sail Newport ($64-68)

DAY TWO

Museums and Shopping

The Perfect Itinerary

Coffee and Breakfast From ‘The Nitro Bar’ - Iced Blueberry Latte and Caprese Pasta Salad or ‘Kaffeology’

Tour The International Tennis Hall Of Fame (Free-$22)

  • Ever since reading “Carrie Soto Is Back” by Taylor Jenkins Reid, tennis has become surprisingly interesting to me and this just added to my fascination.

  • There are tennis courts you can play on and… everyone playing is required to wear white!

Eat Lunch At ‘Cru Cafe’ or ‘Mr. R’

Audrain Automobile Museum ($8+)

  • The cars in this museum change every so often which is pretty cool.

  • It’s not a very large museum but if you’re interested in cars and learning about them, you’ll love this.

  • There were a few classic Porsches that were my favorite to look at!

Explore Nearby Stores

Sunset At Castle Hill Inn + Optional Dinner (Reservations Required)

  • See The Castle Hill Lighthouse

  • Grab A Drink (Reservations NOT Required For Bar Use) and Spend Some Relaxing Time On The Lawn

  • Watch The Sunset

  • Parking is slightly complicated here. From what I’m aware of, if you’re not staying at the inn or have a dinner reservation, you cannot park in the main parking lot. There’s a lower lot called ‘Lighthouse Lot’ that has a pathway directly to the lighthouse. From the lighthouse, there’s another pathway that takes you directly to the main parking lot and lawn chairs. It’s pretty empty in my photos because it was foggy but if it’s sunny, prepare for it to be busy.

DAY THREE

Day Trip To Easton’s Beach

The Perfect Itinerary

Grab Some Sandwiches To Go From ‘Newport Sandwich Co.’ or ‘Corner Cafe’

Walk The Cliff Walk Next To Easton’s

  • This took us about 2 maybe 2 1/2 hours I think and we didn’t even get to do the entire thing. Parking was also pretty full and we got there around 11. Keep these things in mind when planning your time to be there.

Spend The Day At The Beach

Take A Surf Lesson With Rhody Surf ($75+)

  • This was something that I didn’t get to do but absolutely would have loved to if I had an extra day.

Eat Dinner At One Of The Recommended Food Places (Listed Below)

Day Four

History/Free Day

The Perfect Itinerary

Mansion Tours/ The Gilded Age Mansion Tour

  • The gilded age tour runs in August-September and is focused on location featured in the HBO series ‘The Gilded Age’.

  • If you’re not there during that time, there are tons of other options to checkout for mansion tours in Newport.

Fort Adams State Park/Free Day

  • If you’re interested in history, the state park is an interesting place to check out. It closes pretty early, I wanna say around 5ish so if you’re interested in checking out places like the visitors center, be sure to stop in earlier. If you’re not big into history, use the rest of the time to explore Newport!

Free Day Ideas

  • Morning Mimosa Sail

  • Secret Garden Tour

  • Golfing

  • Newport Art Museum

  • Rosecliff

  • Sunset Helicopter Tour

More Food Recommendations

  • O’Brien’s Pub

  • Mountain Moose

  • TSK Thames Street Kitchen

  • Surf Club

  • Chomp Chicken and Drinks

Make the trip accommodate to your interests and have fun!!
